Outdoor Hutches

Whilst guinea pigs can be kept outside in a hutch all year round, they should definitely be brought into a shed or garage during the winter. However it is very important that they are not kept in a used garage as exhaust fumes are extremely dangerous for guinea pigs. Outside hutches should be fully waterproof and draught free, keeping your guinea pigs warm and dry. They should also be raised off the ground to stop damp effecting the floor and protect your pigs from small predators like cats and foxes. An absorbent layer of wood shavings should be kept on the floor of the hutch and the bedroom area should have a soft bedding material as wood shavings can irritate guinea pigs eyes.
